VICTORIAN TERRACE CONVERSION, DALSTON
A typical Victorian terrace in Dalston, east London.

The project sought to open up the house and transform the Victorian space into a modern home for a musician.

The contractor was closely involved in the construction detailing and so Public House designed a structure that could be celebrated.  The openings carved into the masonry were repaired and restored carefully and then left exposed. The steel beams were also exposed and oversized at one level top form storage space, and the concrete padstones also visible, cast in situ using a coloured concrete.

At one level, a music studio with increased equipment loading and soundproofing was required. Public House Studio designed a plywood strengthening system, retaining all the existing timber joists whilst increasing the load capacity. We also developed support details that allowed neoprene sound isolation pads to be inserted to reduce noise travel through the structure.
