BESPOKE STEEL TERRACE
Public House were asked by Artefact Architects to develop a bespoke steel frame solution to a simple terrace concept to the rear of a terrace house in North London.
We developed a minimal structure of thin steel plates cantilevering out over a single column. The column is a tiny section made of 4 individual steel tubes with a discrete spacer every 0.5m. This results in an even lighter appearance, and provides space for climbing plants to grow through and around the structure.
The balustrade was designed to span horizontally between the house and the staircase. As a result, the vertical railings could be minimised and do not need to be connected to the floor structure of the terrace. Architecturally, these railings were designed to hang from the top rail and float above the terrace floor.
The detail design and fabrication will be carried out by CAKE.
